Obama injects race

Obama is doing a pre-emtive strike on Republicans. He assumes that Republicans will create fear by playing the race card. It seems strange to me that Obama would bring up race before anyone else does. Bringing up race is what got Geraldine Ferraro into trouble isn't it?

Here's Ferraro's comment:

"If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is.

Here's Obama's comment:

"We know what kind of campaign they're going to run. They're going to try to make you afraid.

"They're going to try to make you afraid of me. He's young and inexperienced and he's got a funny name. And did I mention he's black?"

http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsN ews/idUSN2040982720080620

Regardless of whether or not Republicans go after Obama using his race, IMO, it's not wise for Obama to accuse someone in advance.  It really is nothing more than an assumption on Obama's part. I'm surprised Obama would make a pre-emptive accusation like this, especially since many have claimed Obama trancends race.

Mocha Munchies Cake Recipe (2.00 / 2)

1 pound
4
1 cup
1 1/2 cups
1/3 cup
1/2 cup

Bittersweet chocolate
Eggs
Butter, diced
Sugar
Strong coffee
Flour
Oven Temp ~ 375°        Baking Time ~ 28 - 30 Min.
Pan Type ~ 9 x 13 inch pan

Preheat oven, line pan with foil, leaving a good hangover to help with the removal of cake. Grease the sides of pan and the foil.

In a double boiler over hot but not steaming water, melt the chocolate with the butter and coffee, stirring occasionally.  Beat the eggs on high speed for 30 seconds, until foamy. Gradually add the sugar and continue to beat of another 2 minutes, until mixture is light and fluffy.  Reduce speed to low and gradually add the chocolate mixture, mix just until blended.
Stir in the flour by hand, and do not over-beat. Pour the batter into prepared pan, bake on center rack of the oven.  It should remain slightly moist in the center.
Cool on rack for 30 minutes. Cover tightly and chill for a minimum of 6 hours.
Remove the cover and run a knife around edges to loosen. Lift from pan using the overhanging foil. Invert and peel off foil. Invert again and cut to serve.

Re: Obama injects race (2.00 / 3)

Umm, have you been living under a rock for the past three months?

Republicans are ALREADY trying to paint Obama as the  foreign-sounding, untrustworthy, alien black man. Aided by their cronies on Fox News.

"That boy shouldn't have his finger on the button." Said by a man THREE years older than Obama.

"Terrorist fist bump."

"Angry black woman."

"Obama's baby mama."

"Obama, oops, I mean Osama, well, we should take them both out."

"Did you hear he has an angry black-separatist preacher?"

Not to mention the campaigns in the special elections trying to tie the dem to Obama with catch-phrases like "Is he REALLY one of us?"

You're not going to see someone call Obama a ni***r, a spade, or any of the worst racist insults. But they have and will do everything in their power to make Obama seem like a scary alien 'OTHER' that isn't REALLY an American, that doesn't really like 'regular, hard-working Americans' (meaning, white people). Already, folks in West Virginia have gone on camera saying that an Obama presidency will mean a backlash against all white people. How badly do you think the republicans want that opinion to spread?

Not new (1.50 / 2)

He has used race before for a primary fundraiser
Here's how it is: in a lot of these communities in big industrial states like Ohio and Pennsylvania, people have been beaten down so long. They feel so betrayed by government that when they hear a pitch that is premised on not being cynical about government, then a part of them just doesn't buy it. And when it's delivered by -- it's true that when it's delivered by a 46-year-old black man named Barack Obama, then that adds another layer of skepticism.

He may have raised money, but Ohio and Pennsylvania voters weren't buying his preemptive approach. Maybe he doesn't really care.

Its obvious what the game plan is, and we have a candidate who wont sit there and take it like its reasonable discourse.  Sorry troll, you fail.

There is a place for faux outrage in favor of Republicans and against Democrats.
There's also a place for me here since I abide by the rules and post legitimate articles. This site is for Democrats that includes centrist Democrats. I don't see any place on this site that states that I have to support Obama.

You and others are hyper-sensitive when it comes to Obama. I don't support Obama, you do. In my eyes Obama screwed up by injecting race and doing a pre-emptive strike on Republicans. BTW, posting a valid article by mainstream media that is factual is not trolling. Again, this is not MyddObama.

Re: Obama injects race (2.00 / 3)

Your point was he shouldn't use a preemptive statement against racism, and I disagree with you on two fronts;

1.  They have already begun using his age, his name and his race against him.  Where have you been?

2.  Even if they haven't gone as far as they will go, it is better to get out in front of the smears.  Obama is playing offensive, he is not going to wait to be smeared and then go on the defensive...It is a smart tactical decision.

Re: No they didn't. (1.00 / 2)

In case you didn't know, it was Barack Hussein Obama's surrogate, Jesse jackson jr. who accused Hillary Clinton's crying of being only for whites and she didn't cry when blacks were hurt, the Obama guys were the ones who twisted the "fairy tale" remark with people like angry hateful Michelle twisting it, and called Hillary a racist because she lauded Lyndon Johnson who actually signed Civil Rights, as Johnson was white.

Re: No they didn't. (1.50 / 2)

Fascinating. So Jesse Jackson is Obama's "surrogate?" Is that because he's black? I guess all black people are Obama's "surrogates" in your twisted mind.

BTW, no one called Hillary Clinton a racist, and the fact that you McCain supporters keep claiming that shows your lack of honesty.

you threw a personal insult. (none / 0)

by calling me a McCain supporter. That is why you get a troll rating. I never said that Jesse Jackson JR. was a surrogate because he is black. You are the one racebaiting by accusing me of that. Jesse Jackson JUNIOR is national co-chairman of Obama's campaign, or at least was at the time of the New Hampshire primary.

Re: you threw a personal insult. (2.00 / 1)

Yeah, catching the "Jr." part is important, because Jesse Jackson Sr. was actually pretty darned fair in my assessment. His name got dragged into the food fights a couple of times, and his statements were always fair, and he did not go out of his way to take offense or cast issues in a racial light. He is one of the (sadly) few big name Dems for whom my respect grew as a result of his behavior in the 08 primary season.

Jesse Jacson Jr. on the other hand ... that guy needs to take mood stabilizers or something. Hillary didn't cry for New Orleans? How the hell would he know? Obama will inspire additions to the Bible? WTF?

BTW (2.00 / 1)

Re: No they didn't. (2.00 / 1)

Yeah and Hillary campaign was pretty rough on him as well. It's called a primary. I did not like what I saw from the Obama supporters after Iowa and I really hope that Obama wasn't behind this. However, I really don't have to worry any more about his ability to handle the repugs as Obama can fight dirty with the rest of them. And the guy ran an amazing campaign. Maybe I don't need to worry about his leadership abilities. I'm starting to really like the guy. I just wish the rest of you would grow the fuck up and start worrying about the GE.

Personally I want a Democrat in the White House. He was not my first choice, but I am starting to see his good side.  Hillary told me to grow the fuck up, so here I am.

Anyway, in the future, when you're trying to pretend you're a Democrat/liberal on the internets, I'd leave out the Hussein. It's too late for you to fool anyone here but I hear the folks over at His44 and NQ are really gullible.

Obama mentions the fact that he's black and you try to make a big thing of it. Try to grasp the concept--he cant help "injecting race" into the campaign. Why? Because he actually is black.

And pointing out that the Republicans have been and will continue to try to uase that against him is simply smart and realistic.

(Passed down by generations of bloggers...)

2 whole eggs
1 sm. can Pet milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 stick butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 tbsp. 100% pure shit

Beat eggs well; add Pet milk, vanilla, butter, sugar and shit. Continue beating shit until mixed well. Pour into unbaked pastry shell. Bake at 350 degrees for 30- 40 minutes or until set. Cool and serve with ice cream or whipped topping. Mmmmm! Smells like shit!

Re: Obama injects race (2.00 / 3)

Soyousay, you are practically alone in taking your position here.  You are entitled to your opinion.  You might even have a point.

My problem with your reaction goes like this: some of the Republicans seem honest in not wanting to go racial for a number of reasons (Huckabee most obviously, but I really don't think McCain wants to go there).

The problem is that their better angels may win out individually, but the party has a lot of people with some shitty angels.

The dude who ran the Willie Horton ads has already been at it again.  All along the fringes of the Right wing we're already seeing very clever, and at times idiotic, racial overtones.

Remember that shitheaded button at the Texas convention?  The one that said "If Obama is President...will we still call it the White House?"

McCain can honestly decry these sorts of things but he'll be either unable or unwilling to stop it.  It need not be the mainstream Republican party that stirs this shit.  They just have to let it happen.

People like Huckabee will honestly decry it, but they won't have enough of a voice or audience.  People like Guiliani will cackle with glee and watch.
